Pricing
I price my work using a ‘price per square inch’ formula. I find that this is an easy-to-understand formula for both the artist and potential buyers because there is less price discrepancy between works (e.g., pricing for canvas or paper in a wide range of sizes).
The formula for pricing paintings by square inch is (width x height) x rate + materials.
The price per square inch is dependent upon a number of factors such as: the medium used, size, complexity and detail. Another consideration is whether the piece is commissioned or sold at an art show/other venue where a percentage of the artwork’s sale price is charged.
